(Celina) Hello My Name is.....

I am very blessed to be part of a Wednesday Night Church group that meets every other week.  We have the BEST teachers ever.  We have been reading through a book called Graffiti-
This book is about "learning to see the art in ourselves" it has been an AMAZING book and I encourage all of you to check it out. Tonight was about how others see you, the analgy that they used in the book was - If you are walking down a really nice street where everyone cares about their houses and it is just a really nice street, you aren't very likely to throw a rock and break the window of one of the houses.  But if you are walking down a trashy street where no one seems to care and some of the windows in the houses are already broken, you are more likely to throw a rock to bust out some of the windows. It is the same way with your self image, if you don't think much of yourself, it will show and people will think "well this chick doesn't think highly of herself, so it isn't going to matter much if I take my word knife and slash at her heart again".  But if you think highly of yourself (not in a ego kinda way but in a "I know the LORD made me special and I am proud of that, and I know I am beautiful in his eyes" kinda way) they won't be as quick to take out their little word knife (or in some cases a word bazooka)

So our teacher had us take little name tags that said "hello my name is..." and we had to right what we thought that other people might think of us.  It was MEGGA hard, cause in the back of my mind I am like "well they probably think of me this way..." but it was hard to fess up and write it down for all the girls to see.  We wrote those down and spilled the beans to the other girls (I have a feeling that they all already know these things I mean what the heck are sleepovers for?!?!  But it was harder to talk about them, when your face wasn't five inches from one other girls face trying to have a heart to heart, laughing/crying to hard so that the parents got onto us).  We after we wrote down what we thought others thought of us, we each took the leftover name tags and filled in things we thought of our friends,  with those new name tags we covered up the old ones that we had written.  It was REALLY cool to look at and see what others thought, and since I have AMAZING friends it was EASY to find things about them..

Here is all of us with our, name tags on

When I got home, I took all of mine off and put them in my journal- here is what I got

it was megga fun to do, our leader had an old window that was just some panes of glass in a frame, and we got to take our rocks and through them into the window to break the glass, just as a visual.  I failed, we were like 6 feet from the window, and I just couldn't do it :D oh well, I had fun trying!!!

Our leader also showed us this video which went along GREAT and was amazing to watch

(if the link dosn't work or you are a little nervous clicking random links, just search for "Dove Real Beauty Sketches" on youtube, it should be at our very near the top)

We had also just went to "Winter Jam" together and watched Matthew West preform his song "Hello My Name Is..." that was just a cool little thing to tack on and remember the little video he had during the concert using name tags very similar to the ones we used. This is an AMAZING song and you gals should listen to it and enjoy the awesomeness.  This song doesn't have a LOT to do with what we learned tonight, it is more saying that you don't have to be defined by junk that you done in the past, I just like the line "hello my name is child of the one True King" it is a great encouragement!

(the name of the video on youtube is "Matthew West- Hello, My Name Is (Lyrics)")

  1. SUCH a cool idea! The name tags that is ;) I did that one time in a group except we had a whole bunch of cheep tee shirts (the kind you get from wal-mart for like...a dollar or whatevs)and then everyone wrote on each other's backs something like that :) I LOVE stuff like that!!:D
