Grace- Just Tryin' to Get a Little Extra Sleep, When....

Tornadoes in December? Hurricanes in the Midwest? Rain and sunshine at the same time? 27 degrees one day and 65 the next?

Welcome to Missouri weather! This is what it is like, you almost never know what to expect. Somebody I heard of said, "If you don't like the weather, move to Missouri, and it will change in a minute."

Weather here is unpredictable. Last May we had a LAND HURRICANE! Yes, it was weird.

This morning I was attempting to get a little extra sleep, after all, it's New Years Eve. Plus I was awake until like 11:30 and have not slept well the last several nights.

I am going good until like 8:25, and then I hear pounding feet down the hall. Oh man! Pounding feet means,

1: The house is on fire.
2: There is a tornado(yes, I wouldn't be surprised, after all, I have lived in MO almost all of my life).
3: Someone is seriously sick.
4: The ultimate reason, I have to get out of bed!

I was right on answer 2. My older brother comes in and says, "Grace, there's a tornado coming in 20 minutes."

I jump out of bed, put my socks on, and go out. Mom sets me to work filling containers with water in case the power goes out. All of our pitchers are dirty. So I start using pots, heavy pots. I think I have been forgetting my push-ups.

Then back and forth people run, trying to get the bathroom ready for habitation,(unfortunately we don't have basement or storm shelter, people in the old days were smarter)

A few minutes later I hear Dad wants to call some friends to see if we can come over before the storm hits and use their basement. No answer. So next we try the neighbors. They say yes and I go to get dressed.

We drive over and head down to their carpeted basement with leather couches(they're nicer than just about any couches I have ever sat on.) And we sit there watching the TV to see where the storm is heading.

One thing about tornadoes if you don't live in a tornado area, they pop up in a flash, are upon you before you know it, they are swift, violent, and then they are over in about 10 minutes. Another thing that you should know.

The town that I have lived in pretty much all of my life is just about the safest town I know of as far as tornadoes go. We have had scores of tornadoes heading this way, and have been told that we'd better head for high ground, or in this case, low ground. But as long as I have lived in this town, we have never been touched. The tornado always takes a detour around us. One time in went away from us and leveled a smaller lake town several miles away. Many people died, were injured, and without homes. I remember going to a local ministry place and making hundreds of sandwiches to give to the homeless and the workers who were helping them. It was one of the most fulfilling days of my life.

I think one of the reasons that we are safe is because there are a TON of Christians in this town. And I think that God is preserving us for His great plan. It's really neat to see how the tornadoes always go some other place. Not that one won't ever hit us, but for now we are safe.

Of course, I have always wanted to see a tornado from a distance. I love wild and terrifying weather, it is so majestic and glorious. I love wild wind, pounding rain, and waving trees. It is so magnificent, and reveals to me how awesome God is. I almost think that I would rather be proposed to in a wild thunderstorm rather than a soft warm sunset. Wouldn't that be romantic?

Jessica~Awesome book

So, for Christmas, my grandmother gave this book called "The Secret Keeper" by Dannah Gresh, to all of my teen girl cousins including me. It is so good that I wanted to share it with you girls and want to encourage you to possibly find it at a library or even save up and buy it. (I think it's like $10)

This book is all about modesty and the secret power us girls have with it. It's not a long book, kinda small but it is DEFINITELY an amazing read. Every girl from the ages of 10 and up should totally read this. I do have to say, that the author suggests some "grown up" things so I don't recommend it for girls who haven't been matured in that area, if you get what I'm saying.

From all of this...I just wanted to press that this is a MUST READ!!!

Jessica~Christmas Update

Merry Christmas, friends and fellow bloggers!! I hope that this year has been a good-n!!
Again, as I usually start my posts, I am sorry for not posting in a while. I'm sure you all know how crazy and hectic this season can be! So, I'll just share a little bit about what has gone on in the last..oh...few da-we-MONTHS!

So, most of my month has been filled with the usual December things: Shopping, making cakes and bread and cookies, shopping some more, cleaning house for guest arriving close to Christmas, MORE shopping, etc, etc...

The week before Christmas, my oldest brother's girlfriend came up for a visit. I really enjoyed meeting her and getting to know her!

Christmas Eve, we all gathered down at my grandparents house on dad's side for our Christmas celebration. My aunt and uncle from Fulton came down with their two daughters. We really had a enjoyable time visiting, having snowball fights and opening presents!

Christmas morning, my family and I gathered around our Christmas tree and exchanged our gifts. (I love seeing people open up a gift I give them!) Then after some Christmas pics and special holiday coffee, we all bundled up and headed over to my other grandparents house. We had a Delicious breakfast/brunch around 10 or so after a snowball fight with Nora. :) ( Alot of fun by the way!!) When my uncle and his girlfriend came in with the exciting news of their engagement, the house was all the more ecstatic and crazy. A while later, I was chosen to read the scripture about Jesus's birth before the exchanging of the gifts. ( A tradition over there)
And now....I am BUSHED!! And also getting scolded to get in bed so...GOOD NIGHT!!
And Merry Christmas!! ...a little late... :)

Grace-Somethin' For Christmas

You've read Nuttin' for Christmas, well, this is the redemptive version that my mom wrote. We are also performing this song.

Somethin' For Christmas

Verse 1

I ate green beans without complaint
Somebody's proud of me
On Saturday I helped Dad paint
Somebody's proud of me

I shared my lollipop with Fred
Helped my brother make his bed
Buttoned my shirt just like mom said
Oh somebody's proud of me

Chorus

I'm gettin' somethin' for Christmas
Mommy and Daddy are glad
I'm gettin' somethin' for Christmas
'Cause God helped me stop acting bad

Verse 2

I floss my teeth nearly every day
Somebody's proud of me
I always put my toys away
Somebody's proud of me

When it rained I put my bike inside
Gave my sis a piggy-back ride
I chose grilled instead of fried
Oh somebody's proud of me

Chorus

Oh I'm gettin' somethin' for Christmas
Mommy and Daddy are glad
I'm gettin' somethin' for Christmas
'Cause God helped me stop acting bad

Verse 3

I wore the jeans that had no holes
Somebody's proud of me
I didn't point out my Auntie's moles
Somebody's proud of me

I asked forgiveness when I sinned
Praised my grandma when she thinned
Chose to be the new kid's friend
Oh somebody's proud of me

Chorus

Oh I'm gettin' somethin' for Christmas
Mommy and Daddy are glad
I'm gettin' somethin' for Christmas
'Cause God helped me stop acting bad

Ending

Sow good seed and then you'll reap
The kind of fruit you want to keep
It's not really... about Christmas

Yodele-hee-hooo

Clever isn't she?

Grace-Nuttin' For Christmas

Ever heard this song? My mom sang it in the 2nd grade around Christmas time, and it is absolutely hilarious! We printed up the lyrics and learned it with actions as a family, then performed it for friends. Here it is.

Verse 1

I broke my bat on Johnny's head
Somebody snitched on me
I put a frog in sissy's bed
Somebody snitched on me

I spilled some ink on mommy's rug
I made Tommy eat a bug
Bought some gum with a penny slug
Oh somebody snitched on me

Chorus

Oh I'm gettin' nuttin for Christmas
Mommy and Daddy are mad
I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas
'Cause I ain't been nuttin' but bad

Verse 2

I put a tack on teacher's chair
Somebody snitched on me
I put some glue in sister's hair
Somebody snitched on me

I did a dance on Mommy's plants
Climbed a tree and tore my pants
Filled the sugar bowl with ants
Oh somebody snitched on me

Chorus

Oh I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas
Mommy and Daddy are mad
I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas
'Cause I ain't been nuttin' but bad

Verse 3

I won't be seeing Santa Clause
Somebody snitched on me
I won't be seeing him because
Somebody snitched on me!

Chorus

Oh I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas
Mommy and Daddy are mad
I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas
'Cause I ain't been nuttin' but bad

Ending

So you better be good
Whatever you do
'Cause if you're bad I'm warning you...
You'll get NUTTIN' for Christmas!

Grace-Google Getting the Christmas Spirit!

Hi gals!

I don't know how many of you use Google Chrome, but if you do, you have the opportunity to help give vaccinations and clean water to poverty stricken countries.

Google has announced that every time someone opens a new tab, they will give syringes and clean water to the poor.

So CLICK AWAY!

Jessica~A Frost-bitten Parable

"What in the WORLD?" I know, I know...it's a weird title..but you will see what it means by reading further.

Grace is the one that actually came up with the idea for this, but this really did happen the other night. (By the way Grace, thanks for the idea! I never would have come up with it myself!)

First, I will have to give you a little background information before I tell you the story.

Our Rooster, Boss (You wanna know why we called him that?) is the most prettiest rooster I've ever seen. Ever since we got him as a chick, I've been intending to enter him into the county wide fair that is held every summer in town. I was very sure he would do good because of his natural beauty and somewhat pretty disposition. I've been babying him and feeding him to get his weight right and special treatments to make his feathers extra shiny.

So, I think it was Sunday night, the night that it was soo cold, that my mom happened to go outside to look for our old mamma cat to bring her inside. She looked all around and couldn't find her so she went into the chicken pen to see if she was feasting on some old chicken scraps. She didn't find the mamma but instead, Boss with three other hens. It was way past the time that they would have all gathered in. ( we later found out that the wind blew shut the door, trapping them outside) Not only was Boss huddling in the position to block the wind from two of the hens, but he was also spread out on top of the third hen, who by the way was very warm!

My mom took them into the chicken house and closed the door, counting extra times to make sure no more were left outside.

Not much was thought of except for when the next day, when she went to open the door and feed them. One look at Boss and she saw that majority of his comb had been frost-bitten. He was not in pain, it wasn't infected thankfully but after we e-mailed a couple of friends that are experts on chickens we found out that because of the perminate blackness on his comb...Boss would no longer be show quality.

To say all that, I'll get to my main point. Even though Boss is not human and can not think about others only by instinct, he still felt that wind and could, at any time have given up and found shelter. We, as humans should, as the bible says it, love our neighbor as our selves.
And that....is my little "Frost-bitten Parable. :)
Oh, and as a foot-note, I have one other rooster-not as pretty- but still eligible to show in the fair.

Thanks Grace!!

Grace- The Twelve Days of Christmas

A couple of years ago, my family was going through a rough time. We were trying to build a house in the country, like, WE were building it, seriously, I put together some of the walls myself. Daddy was gone a lot, and mama was tired. We also got sick a lot then. It was just a rough time.

One particularly difficult night, we got a knock on the door. Going to open it, we saw some people that used to go to our church. They gave us a can of pears, a pine tree, and a note. The note said something like this,

"Hello. This is the first day of the twelve days of Christmas. Each day you will be getting a new item. The first day is a partridge in a pear tree. Here you go!" But there was no signature. The delivery people just said that someone told them to deliver it, but they wouldn't say who.

On the second day of Christmas our true love gave to us 2 bags of turtle dove chocolate, or, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree, with another note. We were getting interested, and very curious to know who it was that was doing this.

On the third day of Christmas our true love gave to us 3 frozen chickens, or, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree, along with another note and clever rhyme that fit in with the song.

On the fourth day of Christmas our true love gave to us, 4 long distance calling cards and 4 rubber ducks, or 4 calling birds, 3 French Hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fifth day of Christmas we were given, 5 golden THINGS, rings are hard to come by ;) 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the sixth day of Christmas our true love gave to us 6 bags of Lays chips, or 6 geese a laying, 5 golden things, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the seventh day of Christmas our true love gave to us, 7 Swan's pot pies, or, 7 swans a swimming, 6 geese a laying, 5 golden things, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and partridge in a pear tree.

On the eighth day of Christmas our true love gave to us milking maid ice cream or, 8 maids a milking, 7 swans a swimming, 6 geese a laying, 5 golden things, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the ninth day of Christmas our true love gave to us, a beep it and bop it toy, or, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a milking, 7 swans a swimming, 6 geese a laying, 5 golden things, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the tenth day of Christmas our true love gave to us, the Lord of the Beans(the new Veggie Tales) or, 10 lords a leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a milking, 7 swans a swimming, 6 geese a laying, 5 golden things, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eleventh day of Christmas our true love gave to us, 11 piping hot loaves of bread, or, 11 pipers piping, 10 lords a leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a milking, 7 swans a swimming, 6 geese a laying, 5 golden things, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the twelfth day of Christmas our true love gave each of us a giftcard from Wal-Mart and something that had to do with a drum, or, 12 drummers drumming, 11 pipers piping, 10 lords a leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a milking, 7 swans a swimming, 6 geese a laying, 5 golden things, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

We also found out who had been doing it. My mom had made a guess before, and she was right(she usually is). It was our good friends the S's. They had put together this elaborate and expensive gift, also coordinating with other friends for deliveries. And all they asked in return was that we do it someone else someday.

You may be wondering why I keep saying, "Our true love". Well, the gifts, though given through the S's, were actually given to us from Jesus. He saw that we were struggling, sad, and needed encouragement. So He put it on the heart of our dear friends to give us this fun and exciting gift to show that He cared, and that He was there.

That changed the entire Christmas for me. It had started out as a rather sad and empty Christmas, but Jesus turned it into one of the most happy and memorable Christmases I ever had.

The Twelve Days of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
A partridge in a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Six geese a laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eight day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Eight maids a milking, seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and partridge in a pear tree.

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Nine ladies dancing, eight maids a milking, seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Ten lords a leaping, nine ladies dancing, eight maids a milking, seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in pear tree.

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Eleven pipers piping, ten lords a leaping, nine ladies dancing, eight maids a milking, seven swans swimming, six geese a laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and partridge in a pear tree.

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Twelve drummers drumming, eleven pipers piping, ten lords a leaping, nine ladies dancing, eight maids a milking, seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Grace-Two Year Olds are SMART!

This is a story I read in a book. But I have changed names for personal privacy. It is SO cute!

I was stuck in the drive through line trying to get orders with Vicki, Joe, Kate, and the baby Lina. Some fast food restaurants cater to special orders, pickles, no ketchup, more onions, less lettuce. But this one did not. We were holding up the line and baby Lina wouldn't choose what she wanted to eat. Finally, in desperation I looked my two year old in the eye through the rear view mirror.

"Lina, if you don't choose what you want to eat I am going to get you a cheeseburger and fries. Now choose."

She sat in her car seat rubbing her thumb and index finger together for a moment, then, she pointed both index fingers at me in the mirror and said,

"I'll take the money."

Lydia, Verse hiding

Well I thought I would give this a try :) No cheating please.

Celina, thing from Grace

Grace sent this to me so I thought I should put it on here.

This poem comes from one of the greatest maritime disasters in our country's history. It was shortly after the Civil War and Lincoln's assassination when all of the prisoner transfers were going on. due to greed caused by a head officer and Captain Coxely, owner of the Sultana, a riverboat that was hired to carry union soldiers up the swollen Mississippi fiver to St. Louis, many valiant was heroes of the Union were sacrificed. Captain Coxley was in debt and sinking fast as far as finances go, so when he heard that the government was paying $5,00 per enlisted man and $10,00 for every officer, he bribed Captain Gains into putting WAY too many men on his boat. This MIGHT have worked, except that one of his steam boilers was in bad condition and had a serious bulge on the side. The Mississippi river was swollen and treacherous from the weather , and with all of the added men the boilers had to work extra had. The head boiler man aboard the boat, Nathan Kendricks, was worried and notified Coxley to the problem. But all Coxley did was have a patch put over in so that he could keep going. His greed and selfishness cost the lives of nearly 1,171 soldiers, crewmen, and passengers. 2.500 had started the trip. The boilers exploded at 1:59 a.m. on April 28th 1865 Hot water sprayed everyone and scalded many. Metal was blown all over, maiming and impaling men. Fires started all over and the boat began to sink. Men died in the flames, some jumped into the river and perished from hypothermia. Others died of their wounds. Men, Women, and children were killed and dead bodies choked the river for months after the accident. Only 150 men came out unscathed and ready to go home. men who had suffered dearly for our nation and nearly died in the prison camps were killed needlessly so that a few extra dollars would make their way into greedy men's pockets.

On the day, or April 28th, of 1865,

Soldiers who had fought for our country died.

They didn't die, from war or wounds,

Or illness in filthy camps spread,

They died as a result of greed, of men who wanted more then their daily bread.

These men didn't see, the suffering and wounded humanity,

They saw dollar signs a plenty.

They packed them all, on a boat, like animals led to the slaughter,

Most of the thought they were going home, but they never again saw their sons, wives, or daughters.

A great boiler, that had long been overworked, burst like a ticking bomb.

The damage it caused, the noise it made, was the of a ringing gong.

Men were flung, high in the air,

Only to land in flames.

Men who had fought and died for our country, died as numerous as the rain.

The water spray, scalding hot, and burned there skin bright red,

Those men who had gone through plenty enough, never again got to sleep in a bed,

Some of them leapt into the swirling waters of the Mississippi river,

Only to die there, of drowning, and cold, only to make the death toll bigger.

Women and children, also were there,

And in the sufferings, they too had to bear.

The horrid sight, the choking stench, was all as a result of greed,

These men had died, who had given their lives, as quickly as the wind blows seed.

Jessica~ A Fairytale

As most of you know, last Sunday, a kind and generous neighbor gave me his 21 year old mare, Mandy. Since then I've thought alot of how amazing it is and what a miracle it has been to get to know this gal.

Some of you may think "Good grief! It's an animal! Why think of it like that??" If you are thinking that... You just aren't right!!! :) LOL I'm joking. But, Horses are what I believe one of God's most wonderful creations!

Sunday afternoon, after my neighbor had dropped her off at our house and I had rode her for a while (By the way, bareback makes you build up calluses on places you don't want to!!) we rode up to my Aunt Mary's house so we could get her used to the place, because that's where she is staying for a while until we get our fence up.

It was getting darker and a little more cool. I was riding around the edge of the woods. The sun at our side, I saw the reflection of a little horse and a small girl whose lifelong dream came true. My insides quivered, "Wow! The one thing I've been praying and saving for, for YEARS has finally.... finally! Come true!"

I patted her rump and went into a trot. The sun, still casting those shadows that still seemed like a fairytale was slowly setting.

"Jessie!" My six year old cousin called me from the porch. I was still in my fairytale so I didn't hear her. "JESSIE!!" I started, hearing her innocent voice. "Yes, Mara?" "Jessie, I really wanna ride your horse." My insides quivered again as I repeated what she said: "your horse, my horse, MINE!!" I felt like bursting into tears as the truth seemed to overwhelm me.

That four legged thing that had always been in my dreams, sometimes at other people's houses, suddenly appeared. I heard the voice of my saviour say: "Jessica, all this time, you've prayed. Over and over I told you that I loved you. I've told you that I bless those who I love and who love me."

"Since you asked, I answered."

Grace-Girls These Days

I have the cutest across-the-street neighbors. I live in a country subdivision where each lot is a couple of acres.
Anyways, my neighbor's across the street are your book type grandparents. Mr. P gardens and wears an old hat, Mrs. P is feisty and can cook like nobody's buisness. And both love to talk at the same time. Oh, and did I forget the Southern accents!

Well, I went over to day to come'a'borrowin' for an extry pie pan. ;) We have busted all of ours except for 1, and when it is Thanksgiving and Christmas time, a girl needs pie pans!

Well, Mr. P gave me the pie pans, and then asked, "Are you a good cook?"

"I am, somewhat. I am working on it, but I can cook." I replied.

"Well that is just wonderful. You know, we have spent these last couple of days in Dallas with one of our daughters, and we have a granddaughter that is a junior and college. And she can cook like anythin', I mean, anythin'. Absolutely wonderful! Her mother(by the way, this is all in a slow, drawling Southern accent)has done a wonderful job of teachin' her cookin' and housekeepin. Honestly, girls these days just can't cook. And I don't know what they are goin' to do when they get married and can't cook. So she is just a delight to our soul."

I smile, and nod, trying not to giggle at how adorable this old man is.

"You know Conner(their grandson, also our neighbor), well, he was talkin' to his grandma the other day. And he said, "Grandma, when I move out, can I buy you a plane ticket so that you can come and cook for me?" Grandma P says, "Well aren't you plannin' on gettin' married?" And Conner says, "But Grandma, those girls can't cook! So when you said that you were a good cook Grace it was just a delight to my soul."

I could have hugged the man right then and there. He and his wife are just about the sweetest things since apple pie.

But they are right! How many girls these days know how to cook? Or how to do laundry? Or how to clean a bathroom, scrub a toilet, mend a seam, sew a button on, wash windows, bake bread? How many do? I can tell you, HARDLY ANY AT ALL!

That is because our culture has lost touch with the housewife idea. They think it is degrading to be womanly, skilled, and a stay-at-home wife and mom. They think that it is unimportant and below to stay at home. But girls, it is not!

I am not saying that women can't work at all, and I am not saying that everyone should stay at home. But it isn't degrading to do womanly things. God created two genders, male, and female. The males He made strong and brave, so that they could protect and provide for others. The females He made nurturing, tender, and beautiful. That doesn't mean that we can't be strong and brave when we have to.

But our present American culture has mixed these two genders. Boys aren't cool unless they are sick, girly, fops! And girls aren't as cool unless they have this whole feminist thing going.

We need godly, virtuous young women who can be happy help-meets to some nice strong young men.

One way to do that? Well gals, men are often touched by their stomachs. Yes. In fact, a survey was done recently about smells that get a guy's attention, and do you know what it was? Pumpkin pie scent! Of course, that wouldn't draw my brother, you would have to wear bacon scent to draw him. ;)

No, I am not telling you to go smearing pumpkin pie all over yourself, I am just saying, men feel provided for when they have a good, hot, homemade meal in front of them.

Think ahead girls, what skills do you need to be a good wife, and mother?

Lydia, Christmatized!

Hooray! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! My house is "Christmatized" as I call it. Our Christmas tree is up with all our memory filled ornaments and our little winter village is up and Christmas music is playing! What a wonderful time of the year! Benjamin and Brooke get to open up our presents to them tonight so the Christmas festivities will really start today. I am so happy to be able to snuggle under quilts and soft blankets. Winter is coming! So all we need now, I say is:

~.`~>~.`.`~~~..`~>~>`~.>~~>`..`

Celina, Grandpa's house

I am at Grandpa's house right now. Today we finished cleaning the kitchen, whew that was a long job!! It was not too bad though because there was a lot of junk that we got to go through. I really like going through other peoples junk. I got some Tic-tacs and a bunch of unopened soda flavored lip gloss tubes. Me and Jonathan (my ten year old brother) went on a walk through the lovely little town of Holly Springs Mississippi, while were walking we ate almost all of the Tic-tacs :) :) :) I love my brother he is funny! I laughed like the whole time we were walking around. (Jonathan is sitting here reading my post and he says that I only laughed 99% of the time ) like I said before love that kid :) (a Rebekah Farr saying) Today we also had a lovely thanksgiving dinner. We turkey, potatoes, Sweet potatoes, pie, and bread YUMMMMMM.

Jessica~A Perfect Thanksgiving

So, I was sitting down occupying myself this morning when my dad says, "Jess, Your mom and I have something we want to tell you." I set down what I'm doing...."Yes dad?" "You know last Sunday when you and I went to Mr. Rod's house and went horse-back riding?" "Yeah! It was fun!" "Well, do you remember how much you loved that 20 year old mare you were riding?"
"Yeah! How could I forget" "Well...Mr. Rod would like to give her to you." "Haha Dad!" "Jess, I'm serious. You now have a horse of your own!"

THANK YOU GOD!!!

Jessica~Prayer

Hey girls!
I want to first, say sorry that I've not been on here for such a LONG time!!! Second, I'd like to ask a request, that you could all pray for me as I finish up this quarter in school. I've lately been having a horrible time in math, usually ending a day in either an argument with my mom or just a good cry. Most of it I know will pass, but I think right now, I'm not only fighting a battle with my studies but fighting a spiritual battle. I would really appreciate the spiritual support from you all.
Love you!!!!!

Celina, Grumpy me

I Have had a WONDERFUL life so far, yet I am always thinking of something to complain or cry about. I have had parents that love me, but sometimes I wish they would understand me better. I have always had more than enough clothes, yet I always want one more outfit. I have always had enough to eat, but all I can think of is how fat I am. I have friends that love me and REALLY care about me, but I sometimes wonder what they think about me or if they like me more than so-and-so. This is just something that has been on my mind for a while, and a blog is for sharing your thoughts so I just wanted to see what you all thought of this or if you have things to add.

Grace-Christmas Music

Do you like Christmas music? I do! It brings warm, happy, delightful memories and feelings. It makes you think about cookies, lights, warm jamies, Christmas secrets, and snuggly hugs. And my bunny. Oh yeah, another story.

So, shouldn't we be able to enjoy Christmas music for longer than just one month? I think so. That's why I am so happy that my radio station is playing exclusively Christmas music every Saturday in November.

And if people think it is unconventional to listen to Christmas music before Christmas month, go in your room and listen anyway. We need happy and warm feelings sometimes!

"That was random Gracie. No it wasn't, it is what you are thinking about, and that is what blogs are for. Oh, okay."

Grace-Still Sick

Okay girls. I am not trying to be a complainer but I am feeling down in the mouth. I got sick on Monday and have been sick since then.

Yesterday I stayed home from orchestra with one of my younger sisters. I felt pretty good then. And we had a lot of fun making Christmas presents, cleaning the kitchen, and watching Nancy Drew. But last night I got a whopper of a nosebleed, probably from blowing it so much. It was about the worst I have ever had, and I have had many bad nosebleeds.

Anyway. I just really could use some prayer. I am not used to feeling sick this long. Usually if I start to feel bad I take a nap, eat a TON of vitamins, and get better in like 2 days. So it has been a rather rotten week.

And for any of you who are sick, GET WELL SOON!

Grace-Sick

Yes. I am sick.

It is like a mixture of like 3 or 4 different things. Flu, cold, ear infection, and something else.

I had a fever, sore throat, body aches, one night. Body aches and sore throat the next. Sore throat, a terrible one that night, the next night, and tonight I have a plugged up ear that hurts.

Ugh! Oh well. At least it is not stomach flu, which I dread above all else. That is funny coming from me because I throw up like the least in my family. I haven't thrown up in 4 years! Whereas my poor younger brother can throw up like 11 times in the middle of the night. Not fun.

I have to go sing in choir tomorrow, I am usually a 2nd soprano. But tomorrow, I might be alto.

Celina, Whats up!!!!????

HI YA'LL
So I just thought that it was time for a little catch up! So Here goes: Last week was pretty busy, I got to baby-sit twice, hang out all day Saturday with some of my Great friends!!! (talk about fun) Then also on Saturday we preformed a play that we had written that was a total blast!!! So a lot of fun stuff, OH I am going to get contacts soon I am soooooo exited! I am also a little worried that I will lose them or break them, because if I do I do not think that I will get to have them again. My daddy has had contacts since he was like fourteen (he has BAD eye sight !) and he has never lost or torn one! He even dropped one in the pool when he was a lifeguard and FOUND IT!! But it will be fun to try. This week I am just working on school. On Wednesday I get to go to our SO COOL Wednesday night church, two of the sweet lady's in our church teach it and I get to provide the snacks this week! I still have to decide what to do before my daddy heads home from work today so he can get the supplies I need. Well I hope and pray that all of you girls will enjoy your week and you will feel blessed in some cool way, and if your week HAS to be bad I pray that you will use it in a time to grow!!! God Bless

Bekah (Farr) Tangled

Okay, don't freak out! I am not about to write about the new Disney movie that's about to be in theaters!! "Oh my goodness I can't wait to see how they strangely twist the story of Repunsel.." No. I am about to humble myself and ask for prayer.

I went to Wednesday Night Church about an hour ago (Not Living Stones Baptist) and the teacher there talked about some things that teenagers, and sinners as a whole, struggle with, one of the main things he talked about was, he named it, "eyes". He was talking about lusting with the eyes. I am not going to make excuses like "what I have done is really not as bad as lusting because i never really thought about.. you know.. sexually" because in saying that I would be speaking heresy because the bible clearly states that if you look at some one in that kind of a way it is the same as committing adultery.

I do believe that this is something that I have struggled with before. And I will not begin to think that it is something I could not do again just because God has so clearly shown me my sin. So I am asking for prayer. I am not asking for pity, and i do not think any of you are immature enough to look at this and not understand that it is just as small as teasing your little brother and just as big as murder.

Another thing I will admit to you all so that I may be humbled and you will know exactly what to pray for is this, pride. BIG word. Specifically pray that God would in every way, everyday, humble me and set my eyes on him. And in another way is that my words would not be prideful (especially around my fellow Christians) but would benefit those who listen.

I love you all!!!!

Grace-And Idea for Biblical Courage?

Okay, I just wondered what you all thought of this. Here is a storyline that I think that I have come up with.

Colt Walsh is a state prison security guard. He has to work daily within barren walls, dangerous people, and despairing attitudes. Yet daily he walks into work with a smile on his face and love in his heart for the criminals within.

Okay, what do you think of that? It is original, which is one thing that I like about it.

Grace-Biblical Courage

I am entering a writing contest that is presented by Patrick Henry College. The topic for my age group is Biblical courage. I am supposed to write an original story only 1500 words long that portrays Biblical courage.

So I thought I would ask you, what do you think Biblical courage is?

Grace-Thankfulness

Okie dokie CC. Here we go!

1: Books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a reading addict

2: History!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ditto with reading. In fact, if you put them together, you won't see me for hours at a time.

3: The country. I have always lived in a rural area, except for 9 months, and I absolutely LOVE it!

4: Paintings. Especially Thomas Kinkade. I love beauty and seeing it created on a canvas so that it can be kept forever.

5: Snowflake pajamas. Nothin's cuter!

6: Hairbrushes. Me and my mother and 2 sisters often finding ourselves singing a classic Veggie Tales song, "Oh where is my hairbrush?"

7: A big, happy most of the time, loud, noisy, bouncy family!

8: Sewing machines. I couldn't do it all by hand!

9: Violins. I am a violinist, and proud of it.

10: Jesus!!!!!!!! His truth, His life, His purpose, and especially His purpose for ME!

Grace-Marvelous Light

Here's a song that we sing at church. It is so beautiful, so uplifting, and really encouraging. I felt like I should share it, along with a new verse, verse 3 that I wrote for Miss Leslie. ;)

Verse 1

I once was fatherless, a stranger with no hope,
Your kindness wakened me, wakened me, from my sleep,
Now Your love beckons deeply, a call to come and die,
By grace now I will come, and take this life, take your life.

Pre Chorus

Sin has lost its power, Death has lost its sting,
From the grave You've risen, victoriously...

Chorus

Into marvelous light I'm running,
Out of darkness out of shame,
By the cross You are the truth, You are the light, You are the way...

Verse 2

My dead heart now is beating,
My deepest stain's now clean,
Your breath fills up my lungs, now I'm free, now I'm free

Pre Chorus

Sin has lost it's power, Death has lots its sting,
From the grave You've risen, victoriously...

Chorus

Into marvelous light I'm running,
Out of darkness out of shame,
By the cross Y0u are the truth, You are the life, You are the way...

Verse 3

My dark soul now is lighted,
Your lamp shines brightly forth,
You've filled me up with love,
I'm filled with love, filled with love

Pre Chorus

Sin has lost its power, Death has lost its sting,
From the grave You've risen, victoriously...

Chorus

Into marvelous light I'm running,
Out of darkness out of shame,
By the cross You are the truth, You are the life, You are the way...

It is such a beautiful, healing song. I have almost cried singing it a few times.

Celina, I am Back!!!!!!!

Whoop I am done being grounded!!! So I have soooooo much to tell you girls!! but first things first, I would REALLY appreciate if you girls would put your name in front of the tittle of your post that way people can tell BEFORE they read it who is writing I have been going behind you guys and putting it in for you I was hopping that you would catch on but only Lydia caught on so thanks Lydia! Also I changed the background color for behind the post, because it makes it MUCH easier to see. Now for the fun stuff!

Grace, Lysbeth

I LOVE TO READ! I mean, LOVE to read. I hated learning it at first, but once I got the basics down, I started climbing and haven't leveled off yet!

So I often get books for my birthday. I have a writer that I really like. His name is Sir Rider Haggard. Yes, another English author. For those of you who know me, my favorite books are written mostly by English authors.

Anyway, Sir Haggard writes these incredible history novels. You may have heard of one of his books, "King Solomon's Mines". I have all of these. Then the others are "Pearl Maiden" a tale of the fall of Jerusalem to Titus. "The Brethren" a tale of brothers in love with the same maid in the time of the 2nd Crusade. And "Lysbeth", a tale of the Dutch!

This is the one that I recently read. It is a story placed during the time when the Dutch Protestants were in a bloody struggle for survival during the occupation by the Spaniards.

Many may not realize fully what happened during that time. Basically King Phillip of Spain signed the death warrant for 3 million Dutch people!
Any Protestants that the Inquisition, the human monsters could find, especially rich ones, were tortured, burned at the stake, starved, and many other terrible things. They harmed men, women, children, anyone!

But the amazing spirit of the Dutch continued to hold on! Led by William the Silent, one of the most kind and wise men in the world, they stood firm. Many cities were taken after months of terrible fighting and starvation. Then the Spaniards would enter, and massacre the inhabitants.

In desperation, many Dutch began to cut the great dykes that held the sea back from their shores. They said,

"We will let our land be overrun by the sea before we let the Spaniards have it!"

William's brothers were killed in a battle with the Spanish, and later on the poor man was murdered himself.

But still the Dutch held on, contesting every foot of ground, fighting and dying like madmen for their freedom and faith!

In the end, God blessed their faithfulness and the Spanish were defeated in a terrible sea battle with the Dutch and English, who were also strong Protestants.

The story of the Dutch, the story of faith, the story of courage. It is a story that is one of the most heartbreaking and stirring out of the many stories of history!

This book, "Lysbeth", is the story of a young girl, and then later on woman, living in these turbulent times.
The arch villian is Count Juan de Montalvo, alias Ramiro. And believe me, you will be grinding your teeth at him by the end!

I won't tell you much, except for there is romance, tears, laughter, emotion, and a message. I strongly urge you to read this book, and study this period of history that shows yet again the struggle for freedom by God's people!

Here's a link to a site where they sell it. And you can type in "Sir Rider Haggard" to the search box, to see his other books.

Lydia, What do you think?

Ok, well I guess it is time for me to pass the baton to Olivia...I have never seen her on though, so do you think I should skip her? Because if I put her on Adm. will she get on to pass it to the next person? Let me know what you think...

I have a research project I have to do on Rahab by Wednesday...and I have not started on it yet...so maybe you could pray for me about that :). I get to go on a trail ride with one of my friends and my sister, that should be fun, but I am a little nervous. I think there is a bible study I am going to with my mom and sister. This week at Orchestra I find out what chair I get, I am really anxious about that. We might get to go camping soon. Lets see...Oh yes Celina and I just finished our play we have been working on... Hooray! It is going to be so fun. I think that is about it. Well hope you all are having a good fall!

Jessica, Hey Girls!

I guess because I was administrator for a little while it got me to thinking that I couldn't post something! Well..I don't know what I am going to post but....It'll be somethin'!! If that makes any sense... So anyways..Here I go!!
On Tuesdays, I've been going to a women's bible study, well, I don't go to the study, I'm down stairs with a college girl babysitting for two hours! It's alot of fun!!!!! But, sadly, I found out last week that she is getting MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And next October she and her husband will move to NORTH DAKOTA!!!!!!!!!! So. I. am. sad.
Flute lessons are going really REALLY good!! I've figured out how to play Ode to Joy! (I absolutely love that song!)
P.E. is going well! We are into our 6th week and also into soccer! I don't like soccer just to let you know...
Then by the end of the day, I AM POOPED!

4-H is starting with a huge (and when I say huge, I mean HUGE!) All in two weeks, we have over 8 activities!!!! But, at least I'll be able to sleep well at nights!
Next Sat-Sun. is our annual Old Iron Works celebration. I know that Celina has been there before so she can tell you lots!! It is basically an old time fest where people dress up and can walk around and see different booths and watch people do stuff they did in the olden days. I really enjoy it! My Uncle Sam runs a cross-cut saw booth so we all go and help and spend the days there. I am REALLY excited!!
Then, that Friday is a "Granddaughter's Night Out" hosted by my grandmother!! She is inviting all her granddaughters to come to her house for a sleepover!! I can tell it'll be alot of fun and alot of GIGGLING!!
Well. I think I just described my next two weeks! I hope I make it!
Adios and Bon voyage!

Grace, October

October, October, from whence didest thou come?

Like and arrow from a bow, or a wind from a storm,

You hath appeared again, when it seems but yesterday that my first memory was born.

October, October, from whence did you arise?

From the valleys below, or from the hills where I lift mine eyes?

You have crept upon me tenderly, but with the cunning of a devilish spy!

I was only awakening from a long summer's sleep, and my dreams had been hot and deep.

It was only August, then September,

But where you came into the picture is hard to remember!

October, October, from whence did you hasten? I must get a hold of the days, for my time is a wastin'!

Grace, Purpose? I Don't Like This God!

Yes, this is yet another post about your purpose in life. But I have been reading a guide book to the Old Testament for Bible in school, and recently, I just read about Joseph.

Joseph, the favored one, the smart one, the handsome one. Joseph, the accused one, the imprisoned one, then, the raised up one.

The story of Joseph has long been one of the most miraculous stories of forgiveness for many centuries.
The idea that you could forgive someone who threw you into a hole, forced you to stay in a cold, dark, probably critter ridden place. Then sold you away from your home and loved ones to cruel men who bound you, beat you, and left you to sleep in the cold. And after that life got to be okay when you were overseer of someone's house, but then because you were kind and good lookin' you got in more trouble.
Finally after a couple of years in prison, you got out, got popular, got married, had some kids, and life was hunkie dorie.
Until.... THEY SHOWED UP ASKING FOR FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If this were some sick American TV show Joseph would have been absolutely terrible to them all! He would have beat them, forced them to go through everything that he had gone through, and then sold them to be slaves.

But he didn't! Instead God gave him the grace to love and forgive, thus saving the entire line of Israel!

Then at their reunion, Joseph says these healing and wise words.

"I am Jospeh your brother whom you sold into Egypt. But now do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. For these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are still five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvesting. And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt."

Genesis 45:4-8

You know, many people use this as a story of forgiveness, and it is. But, I also see it as a story about God's plan for our lives. He had it planned out ahead for Joseph to be in Egypt at the exact time when he was most needed. And because of that, Joseph saved the whole line of the Jews, and ultimately Jesus! What a great testimony!

Rebekah, That Good ole' Smack in the Face

You may be thinking "Oh my goodness, what happened to Rebekah?!" when you read the title to this blog, but by smack in the face I do not mean physical, I mean an awakening, an awakening of my spirit to be exact. I was having a rough time in school, I still am,not because of the classes, no not academically, just spiritually.

Something miss Tracy told me when I told her I had decided to go to Public school is that she could see me as being a light in the dark, some on God would use immensely. I just thought "oh that sounds great"! Little did I know that it would affect me this way. It's hard! I am a big chicken!

I don't mind talking to people at school most of the time, if their beside me or I know EXACTLY what to say, but for some reason it's harder when it means crossing the street to visit a neighbor I have been praying for, or even crossing the hallway to talk to a girl I don't know very well about something she told me, or worse, one I know really well.

I have cried numerous nights because I know I can't do it, I can NOT do it. It depresses me in every way if I get afraid to go talk to that one neighbor girl and then I realize that night that I probably directly disobeyed something God was calling me to do. I am so confused, so confused! I pray for a long long time when I feel especially sad or depressed. (Yes depressed. that hateful word, the one were you picture those black-and-white commercials where it talks about "could cause suicidal thoughts.. ask your doctor today".) But really it's not nearly as bad because Jesus loves me, It's more of on my knees crying and praying for God to forgive me, or praying for strength to do it next time I feel a calling, or praying for the person.

Ever since I was young I had so much compassion for people, compassion that can only come from the Lord. But I have NEVER been afraid to say or do what I know is God (and I've never been unsure if it was), ever. I don't know why but I just lock up and I feel sick, and I don't want to do it. I am confused because I don't know if it's of the Devil or not. I am confused because I pray for the strength and I don't feel strong when I feel this way.

Slap in the face #1:
I talked to my mother about this and she say's that she just prays until the feeling passes.
#2:
My mother also told me that God does not want me to be sad, he is proud of me even if I disobey him.
#3:
GOD DOES NOT NEED MY HELP TO BRING PEOPLE TO CHRIST
#4:
It might be something I need to do even if I don't want to.
#5:
How beautiful the feet that bring
the sound of good news
and the love of the King.
#6:
How incredibly selfish for me not to try to help some one else into the kingdom of God.
#7:
If it is God I will know exactly what he wants.

So maybe this helped you today. Maybe It just helped me to write it out. But pray for me, pray that there will be more of God and less of me, or all God and none of me.
